Todays way of learning especially with technolgy has really made the leaning process FUN!!!!! Chapter 9 and 10 gave examples of different ways yo support teachers show ways of how to use new technology in the classroom.

Readings - Week One

The readings from week one were very informative and the standards reflect daily life skills. Technology is used in every aspect our lives ex. in the classroom and in our homes.
I have never been a good artist however I found the graphic programs and the online presentation programs to be very informative. I will introduce the graphic programs to my students and watch their creative imaginations flow.

531 Week 5

My students are currently working on their black history digital multimedia project. I am taking my students to the black holocast museum. They are assigned to bring digital cameras and camcorders. In the computer lab at school they will research information for the project. Next the students will develop or create a set of pictures in flickr and create a slide show. The students also learned how to create a podcast using G-Cast and eventually will create a short movie using either i-movie or jumpcut. The words used from blooms taxonomy that are used are examine, produce, construct, creat and evaluate. I really learned alot in this class and I have already began implementing the new multimedia tools in my class. I have noticed a hugh difference in regards to my students attitudes towards leaning. As result my overall student achievement and excitment levels has increased. Thanks Louie for everything. You are a great instructor and I have really enjoyed being in your class.

Pod casting

I really think pod casting is a neat tool. Today in my class I introduced Podcasting and demonstrated how to create a podcast. If all of my students had computers at home they could log in and here the assignments as well as notes from the class discussion. I could also record up coming events that would inform the parents of field trips or school conferences.

Elements of Storytelling

During language arts class we are currently learning the steps of the writing process. The main step of the writing process is brainstorming. Brainstorming is the essential part that helps develop the story. My students use graphic organizers and webs to help order their thoughts. This is the creative stage. The brainstroming process allows the students to translate their imagination and talents creatively. We are also developing a multimedia project in class. I am teaching my students how to use the steps of stroyboarding as I learn them as well.

This article describes the connection between outdated technology/multimedia to the current multimedia ideas/software. The author describes options for Web 2.0 and other E- learning tools that are available for media specialists/educators. It is mentioned in the article that students coming out of k-12 aren’t as digitally savvy as expected. Many school districts around the country still can’t afford computer equipment. What the author suggests is these less fortunate districts should try to contacting large businesses that are upgrading their technical equipment or seek government or private grants. The article gave many examples of online E- learning tools that can enhance the class participation and help create peer collaboration. With Web 2.0 teachers can create blogs or “wikis”. The students can post all their assignments on their blogs. The teacher can access at anytime and anywhere. Students are more eager to click away on blogs and write without considering it a chore only because it’s a new idea or concept. Another cooperative technique the article suggests is to create a class “wiki”. Pbwiki.com is free and it’s easy to use. Teachers should set up the “wiki” and invite each student to join. Students can edit and create documents together.
The article also suggests using another Web 2.0 tool “del.icio.us instead of bookmarking. del.icio.us can be accessed from any computer connected to the internet. URLs can be tagged providing descriptors for each site. Another useful tool that was discussed in the article is LibraryThing.com. Visitors can list all books they are reading. LibraryThing.com creates a widespread ready family that makes the process more social. The article suggested several Web 2.0 tools that educators should adopt. However, the technology gap is still too wide and there are still districts that need equipment and funding to upgrade.

My thoughts on week digital storytelling

I can defintely use digital story telling in my classroom. Every year I assign research projects that are usually required to be handwritten or typed. Several of my research assigns could be upgraded from written reports to digital story telling inwhich would ultimately enchance my students overall classroom performance and behavior.

My opionion of podcast

Podcasts are a great source for retrieving information/research and personal theories. Podcasts are exciting! I have always dreamed of becoming a radio announcer. I had my first basic radio broadcast when I completed my first podcast! How exciting!!!! I found it very easy to create a podcast. Of course, g-cast was very straight forward and easy to follow. With my students I can use podcasting as an engagement to an assignment. I looking forward to introducing podcasting to my students this fall.

Walk through and Learning Objectives

This is a hilarious video that uses two administrators dancing in an office to encourage walk throughs. This video is directed towards administrators. It touted the benefits of having walk throughs in an interesting way. I can see it being effective because I can see myself thinking about this video on while doing a walk through. Just the thought made me have a positive impression of walk throughs and would encourage me to do them.

Review # 2

He uses an interesting scary introduction to deal with the perception that fractions are evil. He goes on in the video to show how fractions are many parts of our lives. Although the video is very informative, it does not go into detailed explanations of how to do the problems. Yes it is a good introduction but, someone would have to look elsewhere for help to do the problems.

Review #1

Mrs. Burk Perimeter Rap

Mrs. Burk helps her students learn by doing a rap on perimeter and area. She also does one called Mrs. Burk Simplified Fraction Rap and Mrs. Burk's Measurement Rap. Although sometimes painful to watch, her videos would help the students remember the material. Although she is speaking clearly the background music is often so loud you can not hear what she is saying. Giving her students a device to help them remember is useful.

Netvibes

Netvibes is a huge resource. Like a lot other sites it would need close supervision. It has links to a lot of: search engines, to email accounts, picture sites, and podcasts. It also searchs blogs according to content. This page can also be personalized so you pick which ones you want fast access to. Some applications in the classroom would be: pictures for visual representations, current events, and teaching how search engines work.

Riya

Riya is a very useful tool for those who need to see something. They could make observations from pictures. For example, when covering ecosystems they could use some plants or trees to identify what ecosystem the picture is from. There are drawbacks. When the students look at this site they would have to be closely supervised. There are pictures that could be considered objectionable. There are better sites that could be used for projects like the one mentioned. The advantage of this site would be pictures are from people and there might be some pictures that are not available in all places.

TeacherTube

TeacherTube is a very useful tool for teachers and students. It has many options and is very well organized. It is broken by subject and grade level. It is set up like youtube (youtube.com) Both of these sites give you a chance to upload video to share with others. In addition to it being a good way for students to watch and learn, it would give them a chance to apply their knowledge to teach other. Teacher tube is, of course, directed towards education and would not have some objectionable material that youtube would have.

Safe Digital Networking

Of course, we know that the internet is filled with dangerous sites and thousand of predators. However, I believe that the school districts should bring technology to the for front of the curriculum. Because it is truly the way of the world today and tomorrow. The school districts need to educate, train and police the students as well as the staff accordingly. Social bookmarking, blogging and you tube can be excellent resources for students. I don't believe that students want to replace face to face meeting but use the computer and social bookmarking when time doesn't permit face to face. Also social bookmarking is a great place to share ideas and get help from peers if they need. Teacher should train their students not to use social bookmarking for bullying or copying information but train students to use as another tool for learning.
